    Maragon Private School in Pretoria’s top matric pupil, Tshego Masemola (Pictured), has her sights set on travelling to Israel to do a gap-year of volunteering on a kibbutz. She achieved seven distintions in the 2016 IEB matric exams. “I will be volunteering in Israel in 2017. They call it kibbutzism, where you stay in this socialist living space where one day they may say wash the dishes, and the other day they say you should go work in the factory,” said Masemola.     South African teenagers are increasingly joining over 10 000 alumni of the Jewish Agency's Na'ele Elite Academy where they enjoy up to three years of free education and board. Meet the five new recruits who joined the programme for the first time this month. They study in English at first and change to Hebrew once they feel ready to. And, say the five new pupils and their parents, they are loving it!

    Survivor is world's oldest, celebrates barmitzvah

    The world's oldest man, 113-year-old Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal who lives in Israel, missed his barmitzvah due to the World War - WWI that is! His father was in the Russian army and his mother had died three years earlier. He was born in 1903, in the town of Zarnow, Poland. His two children died in a Polish ghetto, while he himself was deported to Auschwitz, where his wife died.
