    New ‘development’ in investigation: Shin Bet

    There is a new “development” in the investigation into an arson attack that killed three members of a Palestinian family, the Shin Bet security service announced on Sunday after protests by right-wing Jews. The protests were in the wake of last week’s Israeli Supreme Court ruling that three of the Jewish suspects arrested in connection with the attack could be prevented from seeing their attorneys, which the Shin Bet said could harm the investigation.

Multiple complaints laid about the lack of impartiality of editorial coverage in recent weeks, falsely reporting that SA had issued an arrest warrant for 4 IDF commanders involved in the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010 and the Cape Times’ policy with regard to its letters to the editor. The Cape Times and the Star mentioned by Press Council as targets of investigation. And Jewish Report is aware of further complaints that either will be lodged, or of parties who are considering lodging complaints.

Yesterday represented a sad milestone and will be remembered as the first day on which five Jewish lives were lost in the current wave of violence in the country; 7 others were injured. “The pain is the same pain.     Hebron dad turns his killer son in

    Lucky to not have been with her family, this grief-stricken girl lost her father and brother in a terror shooting last Friday afternoon on their family car near the settlement of Otniel, about 16 kilometres from Hebron. Seven family members were in the car travelling to the girl's Shabbat pre-wedding celebrations. She was to have been married this Tuesday. Israel is to lodge a formal complaint to the ICRC after a Red Crescent ambulance refused to stop and help.

    EU's labelling law 'disguised anti-Semitism'

    The Europe Israel Public Affairs Committee (EIPA) which lobbies on behalf of the Holy Land in Brussels, says: “The question that has to be asked is: Was a move on labelling even necessary? What ends does it serve from an EU perspective other than souring the political milk with one side in the peace process?” Meanwhile, on the home front, anti-Israel groups have managed to get the SA Consumer Commission to open an investigation of the “Israel” labelling issue across the entire retail industry.

    Israel hears about Madiba, Jewry's special relationship

    Beth Protea, Truth be Told (TbT) and Wits Alumni co-hosted a talk in Israel on Tuesday by Marlene Bethlehem titled: Mandela and the Jewish Community. Marlene is SA’s serial communal worker and had a close and special relationship with Madiba (pictured left walking with him in Jerusalem). Marlene is also an accomplished tennis player, won the Singles Plate at Wimbledon in ’62 – and her club Champs this year despite being a sprightly 75. She was in Israel to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, of which she is a vice president.
