    BREAKING NEWS! At least two dead and seven seriously wounded in a suspected terror shooting in Tel Aviv. The shooter fled on foot after a Friday afternoon attack on a pub near popular Dizengoff Centre Mall. The area was full of people enjoying what is a weekend afternoon in Israel. Witnesses reported 10 shots fired from an automatic weapon. A manhunt was launched to find the gunman (picture of IDF soldiers searching). Unconfirmed reports say the shooter was assisted by an unidentified woman.

He quotes the example of “Breaking the Silence” - an NGO comprising former soldiers, which publishes testimonies from combatants claiming to have witnessed or heard about wrongdoings during their military service – and on the harm they do.

    Christian faithful from around the world usually descend on the biblical city of Bethlehem for Christmas Eve celebrations at the traditional birthplace of Jesus. But, while all the normal festivities were there, the people were not. Hotel occupancies dropped as low as 40%. The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Fouad Twal, pictured arriving at the Church of the Nativity in the West Bank City of Bethlehem, Thursday. But the town’s mayor, Vera Baboun, says “The tragedy is that … Bethlehem is suffocating!”

    Major announcements by Israeli Cabinet Sunday

    Israel’s cabinet and prime minister yesterday made some informative remarks at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting. Health Minister Litzman extended the free dental plan; Negev, Galilee and Periphery Development Minister Deri said he was tabling a “first-of-its-kind" strategy to place ultra-orthodox Jews in civil service jobs; and the PM announced a NIS 1 billion to convert the community of Harish into a new city of 50,000.

    UN: Yom Kippur now an official holiday

    The United Nations announced on Friday that it will recognise Yom Kippur as an official holiday from 2016. No official meetings will take place on the hallowed Day of Atonement at their New York headquarters and all Jewish employees of the UN will be able to miss work without it being considered leave. The matter was raised last May and Israel’s UN Ambassador, Ron Prosor, is pictured telling journalists on 10 July last year that it was "about time Jewish employees at the UN won’t be obligated to work on Yom Kippur."
