Chev sets marathon R500k goal

Free panel discussion facilitated by Benjy Porter, left, & including Bruce Fordyce to be held next Wed. Let’s help Chev beat their target!
by ANT KATZ | Nov 25, 2013

The Joburg Chev has set themselves a goal of raising R500,000 during the Cape Peninsula Marathon in February. And, boy, do they need it!

In his monthly Jewish Report column this week, entitled “Jumping through hoops… with precarious rewards,” Chev CEO Michael Seiff explains their growing needs: "It is evident that our reliance on government subsidies is an illusion. As our grants plummet we need to adjust our expectations." READ IT HERE!

“We’re excited to announce that our Team Chev runners have raised over R18,000 towards our ultimate goal of R500 000 by February but we still have a long way to go,” says the Chev’s Celeste Everitt.

Team Chev wideThe Chev and backer, Discovery Viatality, have gone in boots and all to attract runners and get them up to speed. With this in mind, they will be holding a free panel discussion next Wednesday, 4 December, themed: 'Helping You Run Better' - With Bruce Fordyce & Discovery Experts.

“The Chev invites runners of all levels to participate in this informative panel discussion,” says Everitt, which will involve “tips and strategies from leading experts to help you achieve your full potential.”

The panel discussion will be facilitated by Benjy Porter and feature Bruce Fordyce (both pictured above). Also featured will be Dr Craig Nossel and Candice Smith. There is no charge for the event but bookings are essential. To book, contact tanya@jhbchev.co.za or call Tanya on 011532-9628.

That’s Wednesday 4 December at 17:45 for 18:00 at the Discovery Auditorium, 155 West Street, Sandton.

Pulling out all the stops

To make things easier for the athletes, many of whom are busy professionals, Team Chev has made most of the arrangements and is pulling out all the stops. Here are some of them:

  • President Hotel - great rates (single and double) at a large reduction
  • T-shirts – Under Armour running shirts ordered to size
  • Friday Shabbos dinner - at Avron’s at R240 per person

Follow www.sajr.co.za as we will post all updates and keep users informed. Let’s see if we can help the Chev surpass that R500k mark – after all, Jewish Report readers and users contributed much of the R400k to settle the Karabus legal fund. For any further info please e-mail Tanya@jhbchev.co.za

Clever marketing

Team Chev 3squareAs always, the Chev has come up with a clever marketing campaign, headflined: We've been running since 1888... now it's your turn!

So, users, join Team Chev – go for it at either the Cape Peninsula Marathon or Half-marathon. Their Chevrah Kadisha’s goal is to raise money which will go towards a much needed new bus for their Sandringham Gardens' residents.

And Discovery Vitality members will earn Vitality points for taking part in the Cape Peninsula Marathon.

Whether you've never run before, or you're a seasoned runner looking to run your personal best time, check it out on Facebook: at https://www.facebook.com/events/600605209960709/
