SA friends of JNF have sent money to Israel for the building of two bomb shelters in the south of the country. Jewry world-wide “has made a big effort to shelter the people of the south (of Israel) and supply more shelters where ever needed,” said Amber Cummins (pictured), the administrative director of the Jewish National Fund of South Africa (JNF-SA).

The Jewish National Fund of South Africa (JNF-SA) has joined forces with JNF worldwide in an effort to provide much-needed bomb shelters, Cummins told SAJR Online this week. Shelters are primarily needed at “shopping centres, near playgrounds, in parking lots, etc,” said Cummins.

“The generosity of the people of Johannesburg has added another two shelters to this list and we are so proud to be able to fulfil this national need right now,” she says.

“Every shelter helps and keeps the civilians of Israel safe,” says Cummins. “Thank you to our supporters who have made this happen.”

To date, 16 countries have transferred funds for 167 bomb shelters, which will be distributed among 18 regional and local councils.

They will be installed adjacent to child-care centres, youth clubs, shuls, playgrounds, homes for the elderly and similar venues. Says JNF internatio: “We continue to receive requests for bomb shelters from regional councils.”
