    Rabbi Yossy Goldman of Sydenham Shul got a nice surprise in the post the other day - a personal, signed letter from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, thanking Rabbi Goldman for the “Miracle at Entebbe” film which his shul produced for the concerts they had in June, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Operation Jonathan.

    Terror twins’ application struck off roll

    The alleged Terror Twins, Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie, chose to not appear at their scheduled Magistrate’s Court bail hearing last Friday and rather went directly to the High Court where they had launched an urgent application before Judge Pieter Meyer challenging last Monday’s Magistrate’s ruling that found their arrest, on suspicion of plotting terror attacks on an American and multiple Jewish sites, to have been lawful.

    Alleged 'Terror Twins' arrest lawful, Magistrate

    Self-declared ISIS-affiliated “Terror Twins” Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie, 23, who were arrested by the Hawks on 9 July accused of crimes under the Terrorism Act, including blowing up Jewish installations in Johannesburg, were told by Magistrate Piet du Plessis today (Monday) that he had deemed their arrest to have to have been lawful – which means that they remain behind bars for now.

    The Hawks allege that self-declared ISIS-affiliated Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie, 23, are “Terror Twins who planned to blow up US and Jewish installations in SA. They remain behind bars - at least for another week - after Magistrate Pieter du Plessis told the court at their last hearing that he did not want to make a hasty decision and that he would hand down his ruling on Monday August 15 in the matter of whether the duo had been illegally arrested.

    Bobroffs' curator, Johan van Staden, wants to wind up the practice of the firm and the state is poised to institute extradition proceedings against Ronald and Darren Bobroff for fraud, money laundering, contravening the Income Tax Act, the VAT Act, the Companies Act, the Attorneys Act and the Rules of the Law Society, among others. Van Staden has called on clients of the now-defunct firm, whose claims have been lodged but who have not been paid, to come forward. Any pay-outs from the RAF since March are safe.

At least two of those arrested over the weekend had unspecified “Jewish Institutions” and the US Embassy on their list for bombing.     Justice Fayeeza Kathree-Setiloane tells "well-connected" rabbi that he remains a flight risk as he awaits extradition to Israel over alleged sex crimes. The fugitive rabbi asked the court for bail and a review of his extradition order as well as "guarantees" if he is, in fact, to be extradited to Israel. The judge heard that the rabbi was igniting a culture clash with South African courts and prisons.

    Two men - one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg – finally succumbed to community pressure and came to the Beth Din to sign their gets last week after numerous reports appeared in the SA Jewish Report and on the Go-Getters Facebook page about men who had refused to sign the Jewish divorce decree - including the naming and shaming of Capetonian Anthony Sherman by the Beth Din.
