Each year ChaiFM listeners prove that their hearts are large enough to rival hunger, poverty and disease by generously taking part in the station’s annual Radiothon.

Answering their call to action once again this year, listeners, corporates and all those wishing to share a little love and kindness with the world, put their money where their hearts were last Thursday for the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation. In 16-and-a-half hours on air, more than R800 000 was raised.

CHOC provides assistance to children and families battling the disease by offering support, places to stay during treatment, and even educating health practitioners regarding early cancer detection.

For the first time, ChaiFM chose an organisation which does not provide assistance solely to the Jewish community, fulfilling the Torah’s injunction to be a light unto the nations.

At this eighth ChaiFM Radiothon, management and staff embraced the challenge - spending 16-and-a-half hours on air.

Donators ventured to the hotspots located at Norwood Mall, Jozi Blue, Mooz Brothers and KosherWorld, while a dedicated team in the call centre fielded numerous pledges and challenges which were read out live on air.

These ranged from pledges by large corporations such as DisChem and Bidvest, to children who donated their pocket money, and even pet-owners donating on behalf of their rescue dogs.

At 22:19, ChaiFM’s CEO, Kathy Kaler, declared the outstandingly successful “2016 Radiothon for Life” closed.
