    Mikvah-peeping rabbi sentenced to 6.5 years

    Washington’s once-senior Orthodox rabbi, Barry Freundel was sentenced last Friday to six and a half years in prison after admitting he had taken videos of dozens of nude women at a mikvah over an extended period of time. He was also engaged in extramarital sexual encounters with several women which he had taped.

    Media frenzy as senior Chabad rabbi gets delisted as emissary as fallout continues from Australia’s Royal Commission into a child sex abuse scandal. Rabbi Yosef Feldman, pictured left on front page of , Aus Jewish News was former director of Sydney’s Yeshivah Centre, which houses Chabad headquarters in the city. He was delisted last week after making controversial comments to the commission, including his suggestion that paedophiles who had not committed sex crimes for two decades, should be treated with leniency.

    UPDATED TUESDAY: Millions of Charlies marched against hate yesterday. It quickly became a sign of solidarity with their Jewish citizens. Late last night, French police said at least 1,6 million had been on the streets of Paris, and another two million around the country. Whatever the final figures were, it was undoubtedly the biggest gathering of French citizenry ever – exceeding the numbers who came out to meet the Allied soldiers who relieved Paris during WWII! #JE SUIS JUIF became the new trending watchword.     SCARY STUFF: Belgium has become the epicentre of violent anti-Semitic attacks this year - with over 30 “severe” events reported between Jan 1 & Nov 24. But the problem is symptomatic of similar outbursts throughout Europe. The WZO, which traditionally holds annual conferences of Diaspora member Feds in France, this year chose Belgium as the venue as a sign of solidarity with the embattled Belgian community.
