SA Jewish leadership's gravy train to Israel

Will the SA Jewish Board of Deputies, the SA Zionist Federation and the IUA/UCF please explain to the country’s Jewish community why it was necessary for all of them to go at the same time to Israel. Surely one or two communal leaders would have been sufficient to discuss our problems with the Israeli Government?

BDS tries to reach SAJR users with video

    Jul 29, 2015 8 Comments
Within an hour of JR Online posting “What Madiba said & meant” last week, quoting the actual speech of Madiba that anti-Israel proponents worldwide so liberally like to misquote, “BDS Works” and “Adam Levy” had availed themselves of SAJR’s liberal comments policy to post links, including one which is an edited version of a video which portrays Mandela as having anti-Israel leanings. Nothing could be further from the truth, as the unedited version shows. See what Madiba says in the actual unedited version of the 1990 Town Hall interview with Ted Koppel.

Klaas Mokgomole, pictured, is one of two of the so-called “Wits-11” censured for forcing the cancellation of an Israeli-born pianist Yosi Reshef’s concert last year. The other Wits-11 member who has become part of the so-called ANC-16 who went on a study tour two weeks ago to Israel and Palestine, is Justice Nkomo. The 16 students slammed BDS in a media release last week – and Mokgamole had another bite at the cherry over the weekend.

The most misquoted of Madiba’s words

    Jul 22, 2015 1 Comment
Jewish Report’s online editor Ant Katz challenges UKZN academic & PSF activist over an Op-Ed she posted in last Sunday’s Tribune. Katz unpacks the entire Mandela speech (which Madiba wrote personally), shows how well-disposed he was towards Israel, pulls apart some of Ms Nadvi’s statements – and concludes with the words: “I challenge you, Lubna Nadvi, academic and community activist, to go to Israel and Palestine with SAIF as the enlightened sixteen did, and let’s see what you think on your return.”

The speech by President Nelson Mandela that is at the centre of so much misquotation and out-of-context usage, that the BDS-driven narrative has become the conventional wisdom on the matter. The speech was, in fact, delivered on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in Pretoria on 4 December 1997. Jewish Report has elected to publish the speech, complete and verbatim, so that the incredible affinity of Madiba towards the entire Middle East is remembered and quoted accurately.

    Student leaders slam BDS intimidation

In a real turn up for the books, 16 high-ranking members of young ANC-affiliated student, political & business bodies which went to Israel on a fact-finding tour hosted by SAIF and SAUJS last week, have issued a defiant statement against their own organisations & slam BDS. Even more interesting is the fact that the statement was issued by two members of the so-called “Wits-11” who were censured for forcing the cancellation of an Israeli-born pianists’ concert last year – and the head of the Wits Branch of SASCO (pictured)!
