    NEPAL: 150 Israelis still unaccounted for

    Magen David Adom (MDA) was the first international aid agency to manage to get into Nepal with an advance party of 15. They have since sent a further 15. They managed to land at the earthquake devastated Kathmandu airport, says MDA-SA chairman, Mark Hyman, as they chartered a smaller plane which could land. While their field hospital is providing enormous assistance, the huge planes the IDF has sent, have to land in India and helicopter in. Many Israelis use Nepali surrogate mothers, such as the one pictured, delivered by an MDA staffer Sunday.

    Israel deals with Eilat tourism crash

    Israel will subsidise European tourists to the Red Sea resort. Says Tourism Minister Dr Uzi Landau: "We welcome this directive which is a breakthrough that will lead to significantly increased tourism traffic to Eilat. The tourism ministry has said it will offer a €45 (R587 at today’s exchange rate) incentive per passenger to airlines flying directly to Ovdah airport in the winter season of 2015/2016 – to promote Eilat which has seen a seventy-odd per cent drop in tourists.

Most of the world’s tech giants, including Microsoft, Intel, Apple and many more do a lot of their product development in Israel, often in partnership with Israeli tech companies.

    Protesters at World Cup Ice-Hockey match risked serious injury to players on both the SA and Israeli sides when they threw marbles onto the ice-rink last Thursday. And, once again, in an act reminiscent of the “Shoot the Jew” incident at Wits, BDS & Co seem to have confused embarrassing South Africans as a whole by branding us a bunch of ‘meshugenas’ – and hailing the embarrassment they caused as a victory. In the end Israel beat SA by six goals to three.

Syd Lowenthal, auditor of WIZO Johannesburg, supervised the voting procedures and announced the incoming executive committee. Besides new co-chairmen Joffe and Wainer, Cindy Polakow, Shoshi Shachar and Andie Schwartz were elected as vice-chairmen, and Janine Rabbie and Yente Super as honorary co-treasurers.
