    LISTEN TO THE SPEECH from UN TV with Hebrew subtitles (pictured) - In his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York last Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the audience that their governments at home were changing their views of Israel. He said he welcomed “the spirit of the Arab Peace Initiative,” a nod to Saudi Arabia which initiated the peace proposal that has not yet been accepted by Israel.

    DIRCO spokesman Clayson Monyela referred to Shimon Peres as a “rare breed of politician that allowed reason to transform his thinking”. The statement, issued within hours of the passing of Peres, suggested that Israelis and Palestinians could honour Peres’ legacy by continuing the work he started in Oslo as the architect of peace.

    Survivor is world's oldest, celebrates barmitzvah

    The world's oldest man, 113-year-old Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal who lives in Israel, missed his barmitzvah due to the World War - WWI that is! His father was in the Russian army and his mother had died three years earlier. He was born in 1903, in the town of Zarnow, Poland. His two children died in a Polish ghetto, while he himself was deported to Auschwitz, where his wife died.

    Israeli design for world's biggest glass bridge

    China opened the world’s longest glass-bottom bridge in the world last weekend – and it was designed and built by Israelis. Tourists who suffer from vertigo, don’t go! The bridge is in the spectacular Zhangjiajie mountains (which inspired the ‘floating mountain’ in the film Avatar). To demonstrate the safety of the structure, visitors were encouraged to try and smash the bridge’s glass panels with a sledge hammer. The bridge includes a bungee jump and a ride on a zip line.
