    Israeli design for world's biggest glass bridge

    China opened the world’s longest glass-bottom bridge in the world last weekend – and it was designed and built by Israelis. Tourists who suffer from vertigo, don’t go! The bridge is in the spectacular Zhangjiajie mountains (which inspired the ‘floating mountain’ in the film Avatar). To demonstrate the safety of the structure, visitors were encouraged to try and smash the bridge’s glass panels with a sledge hammer. The bridge includes a bungee jump and a ride on a zip line.

    Steve Linde, pictured, the recently retired SA-born editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post, was in Johannesburg last week where JR board chairman Howard Sackstein hosted an off-the-record dinner with him for a group of local Jewish journalists and authors. Linde shared some incredible stories and gave some very frank answers to questions which global Jewry often ponders. One would love to share some, but the privilege accorded by being off-the-record means that nobody is able to share his frank opinions and sometimes hilarious anecdotes.

This morning President Reuven Rivlin held a working meeting with President Faure Gnassingbé, of Togo. “Our ability in agriculture, together with our technological capabilities has led us to many achievements. I know the great efforts you are making in these fields and we are proud of the many Israelis who are investing in your country,” said Rivlin.     Israel’s Ambassador to South Africa Arthur Lenk on Tuesday evening hosted a farewell function for outgoing Deputy Ambassador Michael Freeman and his wife Sigalit. Some 60 guests from all spectres of the community including businessmen, journalists, the cultural arena and friends attended. Freeman took up his South African post in July 2013.
