The goal of the centre, called the Johannesburg Torah Institute (JTI) is to reach out and afford Jews the opportunity to learn Torah wisdom. It strives to enable each individual to discover how the teachings and messages of Torah can guide us on living with meaning and purpose.

Chief Rabbi Dr Warren Goldstein addressed the gathering, including a number of rabbis, outside the centre on Victoria Street. He said that people who regularly study Torah begin to see the world through the eyes of Hashem. It is only through the study of Torah that communities are preserved and flourish.

Businessman Greg Solomon mentioned the effect that Torah study has had on his life and how he values weekly study session with Rabbi Yosef Hazdan, director of the institute,. These sessions occur via Facetime when he is travelling.

Bianca Blumberg, a clinical psychologist, spoke about caring for children and gave the audience practical child-rearing tips.

Hazdan presented the array of classes that are being offered by JTI and welcomed everyone to the courses and study sessions offered.

Courses on offer include: Learn to Read Hebrew, Judaism Decoded, Jewish History, Daily Living Jewish class, Daily Talmud, Advanced Talmud, Laws of Shabbos and Simple Truths for Women.
