  • Nothing says “Chev” like Purim does!

    Over the past few years Chev volunteers have been very visible in Jewish suburbs on Purim day. In their purple t-shirts and crazy costumes, under purple canopies with giant (yes, purple) Tzedokah boxes, they identified the Mitzvah of Matanot l’Evyonim – giving charity to the poor of your city – with the Chev’s work and made it an accessible and easy Mitzvah for the community to accomplish.

    Due to a lightning strike, the UOS Johannesburg’s phone lines are down. Technicians are working to resolve the issue, they say, which they hope to be very soon. If anyone is unable to get through to them in the interim, call them on 087 231-7267. The UOS switchboard includes the Office of the Chief Rabbi, the Beth Din and the kashrut department.
