Sandwiches for Africa, to CAP Mandela Day

  • Cap logo
Community Active Protection (CAP) spread the love this year with its highly successful Mandela Day initiative. CAP’s call to the community to “bring the bread and the spread and we’ll distribute the sandwiches to needy causes across Johannesburg”, was a huge success. More than 40 000 sandwiches were counted in total. However, boxes filled with sandwiches were still arriving long after the counting had closed.

The community came together in Norwood Park, corner Grant Avenue and Ivy Road in Norwood in Johannesburg, to make sandwiches for orphanages, soup kitchens and homeless shelters across the city. Young, old, friends and family all came to the park to bring some cheer for Johannesburg's needy.

With this initiative CAP embraces the global trend of engaging business as a force for positive change and many major companies joined enthusiastically. CAP would like to thank those who came on board as sponsors for this Mandela Day project.

The sandwiches were not only individually wrapped for delivery, but each sandwich bag was marked with a personal message from its maker. Acts of generosity and love were in full force as toys, tea bags, sugar and creamer were also brought to be distributed.

CAP’s marketing department worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a success, but once again the core of CAP’s success on many levels and specifically for Mandela Day, is community involvement.

The more than 40 000 sandwiches this Mandela Day reflect 40 000 ways that CAP is dedicated to building a better community for all.
