    Unesco bill may not be put to vote Tuesday

    Last Friday, the chairman of Unesco’s executive board tried to put a damper on a controversial Thursday vote that seemed to reject Jewish ties to Jerusalem. “We need more time and dialogue between the members of the board to reach a consensus,” Michael Worbs told the French news agency AFP. This after the massive backlash from Israel (which withdrew from the body) and many US groups. SA voted in favour of the bill. Will the resolution sink before it can swim?

    Three Jewish Nobel laureates so far for 2016

    Maybe the times they are a-changing’? Bob Dylan became the first person considered primarily a musician to win the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday and the third Jew in 2016 so far. The Bard - as he is known by fans (highlighting how he is seen equally as a poet and musician) - became the fifteenth Jew to win the literature prize, joining the ranks of Saul Bellow, Isaac Bashevis Singer and Patrick Modiano.

    The influential Jerusalem Post has just published its pick of the “50 Most Influential Jews” during 5776 - and South Africa’s Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein. made the list. J-Post refers to Goldstein as “The Good Shabbos Rabbi”. How influential does this make Rabbi Goldstein in the eyes of what is often called the most international of Israeli newspapers? Very. He came in 21st, ahead of the likes of Natan Sharansky (24th) and President Reuven Rivlin (29th).

    Tiffany Trump, 22, has been dating Ross Mechanic, 31, the son of attorney Jonathan Mechanic and Wendy Sue Levine. According to their Instagram pages, the two met while attending the University of Pennsylvania, where Tiffany graduated from this May. They have been dating for at least a year since Tiffany first posted a picture of herself with Ross last October. They attended the RNC together - despite Ross being a Democrat.

    LISTEN TO THE SPEECH from UN TV with Hebrew subtitles (pictured) - In his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York last Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the audience that their governments at home were changing their views of Israel. He said he welcomed “the spirit of the Arab Peace Initiative,” a nod to Saudi Arabia which initiated the peace proposal that has not yet been accepted by Israel.
