Strous — who is also a member of the school’s dance committee– encouraged pupils to donate dance wear they no longer needed, such as leotards, leggings, ballet shoes, tutus, and festival costumes.

She was overwhelmed by the generous response from her fellow pupils. Last week, Strous, Maya Katzen, Dina Segal, and Farra Rabinowitz, all members of the committee, handed over bags of dance wear to the Jo’burg Ballet Company. The company runs outreach programmes in Soweto, Alexandra and Braamfontein to teach disadvantaged children how to dance.
