Israeli, SA teachers form bonds

Teachers from Israel and South Africa learned from one another and forged professional and personal connections during a memorable visit to Johannesburg by the Jewish Agency for Israel’s P2G (Partnership2Gether) programme. 

They worked with pupils in the classroom and met principals and teachers, sharing ideas and leading engaging professional development sessions. 

In one fun activity, children learned words in Hebrew for vegetables, food, and cooking. The best part came at the end, when everyone had the chance to taste the delicious vegetable soup made, complete with “soup nuts” brought from Israel. 

The experience went far beyond the classroom. The teachers visited the Apartheid Museum, explored South Africa’s rich and complex history, experienced the warmth of the Johannesburg Jewish community, enjoyed meals hosted by teachers, and, above all, benefited from the incredible home hospitality provided by community members. 

These personal encounters transformed a professional exchange into something much deeper, building friendships, strengthening connections, and creating memories that will remain long after the visit.
