A few weeks ago, American ambassador to South Africa, Reuben E. Brigety II, accused South Africa of arming Russia in its invasion of Ukraine. The rand plummeted to new lows and our tax-free AGOA access to the American market looks in deep jeopardy.
The revelation comes soon after the ANC accused America of provoking the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The public spat between the two countries signalled that the US had simply had enough of South Africa.
