20% of Wits’ chosen matriculants Jewish

VC Prof Adam Habib has awarded awarded R50k-a-year bursaries to “Crème de la crème“ of 2014 matrics – two of the 10 being Shannon Rabinowitz and Ricky Smith.

Wits University has awarded Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships to the 10 most outstanding 2013 matriculants from all schools who have chosen to do their undergraduate degrees at the university. Two 2013 matriculants from King David Linksfield in Johannesburg are among the chosen 10.

 

The scholarships are valued at approximately R50,000 each and are renewable for each year of the first undergraduate degree provided that academic performance is of a high standard, the university said in a media release..

 

Shannon Rabinowitz (pictured at right) and Ricky Smith (see above), will both study for a Bachelor of Science degree.

 

Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Habib, said the recipients had all shown exceptional academic ability. “These learners are the crème de la crème of the matric class of 2014, and we will be proudly welcoming them to the university and encouraging their academic progress over the next few years.”

 

Wits annually administers about R500 million in financial aid and scholarships on behalf of the National Students’ Financial Aid Scheme, corporates, private donors and other institutions. According to Habib, over half of Wits’ students received bursaries or financial aid in one form or another.
