Child yogis at KDVP

A typical morning at King David Victory Park (KDVP) Pre-Primary School involves yoga stretches for Grade R students. Teacher Jodi leads the children through a series of poses including the ice-cream, tortoise, and seated twists. Yoga is a holistic system of mind-body practice for mental and physical health. The children’s response is mixed – some love it, and go deep into quiet mode, while others giggle throughout.

The teachers say yoga involves physical postures and exercises to promote strength and flexibility, breathing exercises to enhance respiratory functioning, and relaxation techniques to cultivate the ability to release tension and stress. Yoga also teaches children about mindfulness practices to enhance mind-body awareness.

“There are few better ways to help children to learn proven practices for long-term health, happiness, and holistic success like yoga. KDVP is thrilled to be offering it,” the school says.
