Deeds Office deadlines for property transfers

When a conveyancing attorney advises that the transfer of a property has been lodged with the Deeds Office, it means that the necessary documents have been submitted to this office for examination and registration.

Process after lodgement:

  1. Examination period (seven to 10 working days): the Deeds Office examines the lodged documents for accuracy and compliance with regulations;
  2. On prep (up to five days): if the documents are in order, they are returned to the conveyancers to prepare for registration;
  3. Put forward for registration: the conveyancers submit the prepared documents for registration;
  4. Final checks (one day): the Deeds Office conducts final checks before registration;
  5. Registration: the property transfer is registered, and the new owner is recorded.

Timeline:

  • Lodgement to examination: seven to 10 working days;
  • Examination to on prep: up to five days;
  • On prep to put forward: variable (depending on conveyancer readiness);
  • Put forward to registration: 1 to 2 days.
