Fed is the conduit for memorial service info

Johannesburg and Cape Town’s times and venues have been announced – and all services will have condolence books. “The Jewish community will be holding a tribute gathering in memory of Shimon Peres in Johannesburg and Cape Town tomorrow evening. “Paying tribute to him earlier today, US President Barack Obama noted that “Peres changed the course of human history”.

Memorial services are being arranged around the country and co-ordinated by the SA Zionist Federation, to whose offices all inquiries should be channelled.

“We are organising these events in consultation with the Board and Embassy,” says the Fed’s national executive director Nicci Raz.

Cape Council Board Chairman Eric Marx confirmed that their office is assisting the SAZF, who are “driving” the process.

As further information is received this post will be updated, but what is certain at this point is that the following memorial services will be held on Thursday, September 29:

In JOHANNESBURG: at King David Linksfield at 6pm

In CAPE TOWN: at Gardens Shul at 5.45pm

In DURBAN: at the Durban Jewish Centre at 6.30pm

“There will be a condolence book at our ceremonies,” Nicci Raz advised Jewish Report.
