Glenhazel’s pop-up shul

There are pop-up shops, restaurants and even hairdressers, but now there is also a pop-up shul in Glenhazel on Friday evenings. This makeshift shul is currently situated in the outside enclosed area of Michelo’s restaurant. “The last Friday night, we had 48 attendees,” says Reverend Ilan Herrmann, formerly of the Lions Doornfontein Shul, who organises and runs the service.

The Shabbos service is conducted with men and women on either side of the temporary mechitzah. There is kiddush and sometimes a guest speaker after the service.

At the last Shabbat service they held, the newly elected DA councillor to Ward 72 (Glenhazel and surrounds), Lionel Greenberg, spoke about his party’s strategy and implementations in the area that are being done.

The shul does not hold weekly services, but periodically.
