The Jewish National Fund of South Africa distributed 500 food parcels to the Mamelodi community in Tshwane on 11 August with the assistance of volunteers from philanthropic organisation Cadena.

The delivery, scheduled for the previous week, had to be halted due to civil unrest, in keeping with the Jewish mitzvah of pikuach nefesh (not putting lives at risk).

The JNF acknowledges all donors and particularly the South African Jewish Board of Deputies food relief fund and The Angel Network for their generous donations to this project. The recipients are affiliated to the JNF Walter Sisulu Environmental Centre in Mamelodi, a JNF outreach project initiated in the early 1990s to bring Israeli eco-practices to this semi-rural South African community.

JNF South Africa continues to be committed to the centre’s ecological impact, and the welfare of the extended Mamelodi community.
