Ponary Forest massacre inexplicable

It is too horrific – even more than 70 years later – to imagine an entire Jewish community of 2 500 innocents being killed by the Nazis in collaboration with local Lithuanians.

The standard answer to the question “why” is “don’t ask”. This is such a convenient escape clause to use in cases where savagery cannot be explained logically in the context of the veneration accorded to Hashem by us Jews from the moment we wake up. Maybe there is a closer alliance with the devil.
