SAJR Online will post Chanukah candles daily
Don’t miss SAJR Online’s special Chanukia pages during the eight days of Chanukah. Each day we will add another candle on the top right hand side of our home page – as well as adding a plethora of quality content for users to talk around the family table about and to share with friends. Where will you be celebrating tonight? Joburg will, once again, be partying with Chabad at the KosherWorld Centre. Be there, as they say, or be square…

During the eight days of Chanukah, SAJR Online will have a distinctly Chag feeling to it as we will be placing a chanukia on the top right hand side of every page of the website and will change the image each day by adding another candle.
The artwork was sponsored by the Jewish Report’s layout and design guru Bryan Maron of Design Bandits as a community project.
To be quite honest, users, we did discuss reporting the candles every hour or two burned a bit lower – but as soon as we realised the amount of work THAT would involve, the thought went out the window faster than a candle goes out in a hurricane.
Family fun in Joeys once again
As has become the norm for erev-first-night, from 5.30 this evening there will be tons of family fun, frolicking and entertainment leading up to Chabad House’s Rabbi Shalom Bacher who will be lighting their first giant candle at the KosherWorld Centre in Glenhazel at 6.30pm.

This year they have so much free and fun activity for families – from balloon sculpting, a magician, face-painting, gifts for the kids and entertainment by the evergreen favourite one-man-band Roni Lea.
For those looking for eats and treats, there will be donuts (of course), a pop-up Pizza shop by Stan and Pete, and MiVami will be offering potato latkes as well as a limited menu throughout the eight days at superbly discounted prices.
There is no entry fee to what has become a highlight family occasion.

So, users, keep a lookout for our chanukia – which we have carefully designed to not upset anyone as some have different beliefs regarding what the correct design is for a chanukia.
We are sure we have come up with a multi-sectorial-appropriate design, to suit all streams of Judaism.
And, in words inspired by the greeting of regular SAJR.CO.ZA contributor RABBI SHMUEL BLOCH: We wish all our users and their friends and families a Freilichin Chanukah filled with light and latkes!
