SAUPJ commends SABJE on Broomberg issue

The South African Union for Progressive Judaism has commended “the swift and constructive response of the South African Board of Jewish Education to Joshua Broomberg and commend the Board for its open-minded approach.”

In a media release under the names of Rabbi Greg Alexander, chairman of the SA Association for Progressive Rabbis and Alvin Kushner, chairman of the SA Union for Progressive Judaism, the SAUPJ said: “We too appreciate the wide spectrum of opinion on religious and political matters that characterises our Jewish community and we wish kol hakavod to the balanced and calm leadership of the school who has not been influenced by the disturbing and extremist responses circulated.

“We look forward to this being a generator of positive debate and discussion in our schools and shuls.”
