Tomato pesto – grab those that are still kosher

The kashrut department of the Johannesburg Beth Din announced this week that all newly-made batches of “Ina Paarman’s Sundried Tomato Pesto” will no longer carry a hechsher on their label as they are no longer kosher.

Stock up!

According to the kashrut department the company has changed its recipe and now includes ingredients that are unfortunately not kosher.

Use all you want of the older stock which still bares the Beth Din logo. As a responsible kosher manufacturer, the company only reverted to using its new recipe (which is not kosher) once packaging without the hechsher printed on it was available.

This means, say the Beth Din, that Kashniks can safely purchase and use any stock that still bares the hechsher. Three cheers for Ina Paarman’s kashrut awareness.

And, Kashniks whose families like the product can hunt for some of the stock which still bares the hechsher. If you do find stock anywhere, please post a comment below this story to share the good news with your fellow kosher consumers. After you have taken your fill, of course.
