Doing the mitzvah of hearing the shofar
It is customary during the month of Elul to hear the sounds of the shofar (ram’s horn) calling people to penitence, prayer, and charity during the yamim noraim (days of awe).

Shneur Uzvolk in Grade 9 at Torah Academy Boys’ High School shows staff and pupils his ability to blow the shofar. Uzvolk’s demonstration was part of the school’s tradition of blowing the shofar every week day prior to the New Year, when it is sounded in shul.
