KZN Judaica centre promotes learning
Akiva College in Umhlanga Rocks recently opened the Jean and Charles Kluk Judaica Centre, sponsored by the Kluk family in memory of their beloved parents.

Lessons will be given throughout the day in the Judaica centre, which will be the focal point for kodesh at Akiva College.
More than 120 people attended the opening, where tributes were paid to the Kluks for the remarkable impact they had on the Jewish community since their arrival in Durban in 1963. Charles was chairman of the Durban United Hebrew Congregation for many years, and his name became synonymous with the Chevrah Kadisha. Jean was highly active in the Union of Jewish Women, and did a great deal of work in helping to arrange bone-marrow transplants in South Africa.
Charles’s grandson, Jason Kluk, affixed the mezuzah, that once hung on the doorway of Charles’ room in his Cape Town home, to the door of the centre.
