Sandton Sinai Chatterbox Event empowers young voices

The Inter Jewish Day School Chatterbox Event on 18 August, spearheaded by Sandton Sinai Primary School and conceived by Grade 5 English teacher Sofia Caripi, fosters public speaking skills among Jewish primary school students.

The event, which brings together pupils from Jewish schools to showcase their confidence, creativity, and communication skills, isn’t a competition in the traditional sense, with no winners or losers. Instead, participants are awarded silver, gold, or honours based on their performance, emphasising the value of effort and progress over competition. At the event on 18 August, each school was allowed to send two pupils per grade from Grades 4 to 7, providing a platform for a diverse range of students to shine.

Public speaking is an invaluable skill that benefits children in many ways. By participating in events like Chatterbox, pupils develop confidence, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. They learn to articulate their thoughts, express themselves clearly, and engage with their audience. These skills are essential for future success, whether in academics, career, or personal relationships.

The Chatterbox Event’s focus on following a rubric and criteria also helps pupils develop essential skills such as organisation, time management, and self-assessment. By providing a supportive and nurturing environment, the event encourages them to take risks, challenge themselves, and grow as individuals.
