UJW brings Christmas cheer to Durban patients

The Durban branch of the Union of Jewish Women again brought cheer to badly ill patients in hospital over the festive season. Tikkun Olam is always at it’s best – and of most value to SA Jewry – when it is seen to be offered, as it should be, to the country’s broader community. Hats off to the UJW ladies for once once again doing just that.

The Durban branch of the Union of Jewish Women (UJW) once again spread Christmas cheer over the festive season by handing out grocery vouchers to patients attending the Kathleen Voysey Clinic.

The Clinic, housed at the Methodist Church Hall, is run entirely by volunteer staff, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists.

It is a primary health care facility which provides HIV, AIDS and TB-related treatment, care and support services for underprivileged adults.

Testing is also done for hypertension and diabetes and minor wounds are dressed.

The Union of Jewish Women began this project a number of years ago by donating food packs, UJW National Chair Lynne Raphaely told JR Online, “but decided a few years ago to rather donate supermarket vouchers so that the patients can choose what they’d like to purchase.”

Once again the ladies have done the community proud.
