I don’t often air my opinion on any of the columns or letters in the SA Jewish Report, but the letter penned by the anonymous doctor titled, “Clearly you’re a Zionist, going around demanding shit” (17 June 2021) is bizarre.
I’m all for journalistic prerogative and freedom of speech, but publishing such a letter absolutely needs to include the name of the person who wrote such a letter.
Notwithstanding that the letter is abusive, it’s also nonsensical and factually incorrect. Yet again, we have a writer calling Israel an apartheid state when exactly the opposite is true – we have, for example, in Israel an Arab party, Ra’am, not only in the Israeli parliament (Knesset) but in government itself!
“You’re basically killing Arabs and jailing innocent kids” is irrational and untrue as Israel is a democracy where the rule of law is upheld.

I agree fully, the letter was nothing short of abusive and misguided. I think that the Jewish report should have to answer as why they chose that ridiculous drivel to publish, of all the letters that they receive from the community on a weekly basis, if that’s the best they could do that is doesn’t bode well for their future.
