The South Africa You Don’t Understand

Published

on

GG Alcock was born white and Zulu bred. Growing up in a mud hut with no water or electricity in rural KwaZulu-Natal, today he has coined the phrase Kasinomics – the township life and economy that you don’t understand.

Jason Woolf is a Cape Town musician who has moved into Langa for a year, building bridges and living as the only white person and Jew in the township.

Anton Harber, award winning journalist and founder of the Mail & Guardian, travelled to the squatter community of Diepsloot every day for six months, but chose not to live there.

Our guests explain a different world that exists a few steps away from the leafy suburbs of South Africa.
