Why does ‘respected’ rabbi not want to be named?

In the article in Jewish Report on the forthcoming Equality Court case involving the Cape Council of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (on women not allowed to sing at communal functions), the writer refers to a “respected local rabbi who asked not to be named…”

Why does this person not wish to be named? Is it perhaps because he is not proud of his views? Or perhaps he is uncertain? Please advise the reason.

How can one be respected and anonymous?
