The arrangements were made through Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs who approached MDA to assist. “We immediately responded to the request and activated medical teams to fulfil the assignment,” said an MDA spokesman.

The patients were flown via Ben Gurion International Airport. Three of the wounded appeared to be in a serious condition, while others’ injuries seemed light to moderate

The wounded were taken in Red Crescent ambulances to the Erez border crossing, transferred to Israeli Magen David Adom ambulances which transported them to Ben Gurion Airport.

They were then transferred onto a Turkish Air Force transport plane for the last leg of their journey.

The operation was conducted with the help of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories and the Foreign Ministry, and under their approval. Magen David Adom dispatched 19 ambulances to the Erez crossing to transport the wounded.

Palestinian patients are routinely transported from the Gaza Strip to receive treatment elsewhere. In an average month, Magen David Adom transports some 100 patients from Gaza to Israel.

The four agencies – and a lot of diplomatic input – collaborated on Wednesday to assist in getting ill Gazans to Turkish hospitals for further treatment, via Ben Gurion International Airport.
