Rabbi Berland, whose Shuvu Banim Breslov sect have made worldwide headlines by making a death-threat to the Chief Rabbi, spoke out for the first time on Tuesday.

ST Berland recants on websiteBerland insisted that he had nothing to do with the threat (known as a ‘din rodef’). He also said that he withdrew the threat on behalf of his organisation.

His short, taped message was quickly followed by a statement from some of his most trusted disciples, those who populate his social media platforms.

They, too, announced that having heard what their spiritual leader, Rabbi Eliezer Berland, had said, they, along with all of Berland’s followers throughout the world: “take back any harsh words that may have been spoken in the past.”

Rav Berland had not been seen or heard from and has been in hiding for the past ten days after Interpol and the specialized crime unit of the SA Police Service, The Hawks, attempted to detain and extradite him to Israel on a warrant for solicitation from which he has been on the lam for the past four years.

Chief Rabbi Goldstein could not be contacted for comment.

‘Once again taking out of context.

Who is behind these articles and clear agenda which SAJR is trying to push.

Taking thins completely out of context that ‘Rabbi Berland issued a death threat\” and then once again taking things out of context that the death threat was withdrawn. Why don’t you quote the entire message instead of sending a recording in Hebrew which most of us don’t understand.

    Here is the complete quote:

After more than a week of not hearing from the Rav, today (tuesday) we recieved the following voice recording of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit”a relating to the recent false publication in his name.listen here:Rav Berland blessing Rav Goldstein     Here is an english transcription of the Rav’s words:“I’ve come to make it known to everyone that Chief Rabbi Goldstein is my most faithful friend, he is with me in heart and soul. He is, thank G-d, taking care of me and our kehilla here is Johannesburg, physically and spiritually. I have never had a friend like Rav Goldstein my whole life, a friend so faithful. The kehilla feels the best under his patronage, he takes care of all of the affairs of our kehilla. I only respect him and pray to G-d that he should prolong his days and years. G-d forbid that things which were never said and have no foundation or basis be publicized in my name – to say that I want to, G-d forbid, take his life. I only pray for his well-being.G-d should prolong his days and years and establish his Kingdom forever and ever, him and his family and children for all generations until the coming of our righteous Messiah.”After hearing these words. We, at Shuvu Banim International, Yeshivat Shuvu Bonim in Jerusalem and all of Rav Berlands students want to pronounce that we stand behind the words of our Rabbi and we take back any harsh words that may have been spoken in the past and were completely taken out of context, misunderstood and have caused unintentional insult and pain to innocent individuals.
