These words of wisdom, from acclaimed British primatologist and anthropologist Jane Goodall, have inspired Moses Moyo to make a difference. He has done so career-wise as a newspaper publisher, as well as by committing to run the DL Link Jerusalem Marathon.
Moyo, 40, hails from Zimbabwe and is based in Johannesburg. This husband and father of five is the publisher of four community newspapers: Inner-City Gazette, Tshwane Gazette, RSA Today and Joburg Gazette.
“These publications are my contribution to making a difference to communities by keeping them informed and updated with what directly and indirectly affects them,” says Moyo.
“After speaking to the director of DL Link, I decided to run the 2018 Jerusalem Marathon in remembrance of loved ones whom I have lost to cancer, and in support of community members in the inner city and of colleagues battling the disease.
“It’s disheartening to hear the poorest in our communities buy into the myths about this deadly disease. I want to demystify these myths, especially the myth that cancer is a witchcraft disease. In this regard, my role in keeping communities properly informed about cancer is paramount.”
