Holocaust reflection helps Davidians make meaning of history
King David Linksfield Grade 7s went on a journey of reflection about the Holocaust, starting on Friday, 9 May, with a Shoah (Holocaust) workshop at the school, and continuing with a visit to the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre (JHGC) the next day, including an audience with Holocaust survivor Irene Klass.
The workshop was designed and facilitated by dedicated teachers, and included age-appropriate, engaging, and sensitive discussions, which explored the key themes of the Holocaust, its historical context, personal stories, and enduring lessons.
At the JHGC, expert educators guided students through powerful exhibitions and interactive sessions, deepening their understanding of this dark chapter in human history.
The highlight of the day, and an unforgettable privilege for students, was hearing the personal testimony of survivor Klass, who shared her experience of loss and resilience with grace and courage. Her voice, a living bridge to the past, left an indelible mark on every listener in the room.
Opportunities such as these help shape students not only as learners but as compassionate, thoughtful young members of the community and the world.
