Sandton Sinai School play helps realise dreams
Sandton Sinai Primary School put on its first-ever school play in August, titled A Million Dreams, but the play was more than just about performance, it was about speech and drama skills and memories made during rehearsals.
Said the play’s director, “I spent time at the school, getting to know its environment and ethos, and I was truly amazed. This was more than just a place of academic excellence. It went beyond that. The level of care and individual attention given to each child was extraordinary.
“What stood out most were the school’s guiding values: da’at [knowledge], chesed [compassion], ayin tova [generosity], and kavod [respect]. These weren’t just words printed on banners, they were lived every day. You could see them in the way students supported one another; greeted the staff; and showed an eagerness to learn and grow. That’s when we decided to set the play within the school environment, and celebrate the experience of growing up in such a nurturing space. Our play’s tagline, ‘It starts here,’ was a testament to that.
“This process was incredibly special for me – watching children who may not have always shone academically come alive on stage; witnessing students discover a voice they didn’t know they had; and seeing those with musical talent rise to the occasion. I hope the skills they gained – confidence; clear articulation; and the ability to carry themselves on stage – will stay with them long after the curtain closed.”
