King David learners, parents, grandparents, teachers and staff took to the streets of Johannesburg in droves on Sunday to participate in the annual 5km “KD Big Walk and Run”, hosted by King David Linksfield and sponsored by Discovery Health.

With well over 2 000 participants, the annual KD Big Walk and Run aims to unite King David Schools in a fun and healthy way, encouraging unity and cohesiveness across all ages and between the various campuses.

This year, as part of the SA Board of Jewish Education’s outreach programme, King David extended an invitation to one of its outreach partner schools, Summerwood Primary, and 40 learners and teachers from that school were able to join in the fun.

The 5km run was followed by a walk which began at King David Linksfield and continued through Linksfield North. The fun continued on the school field with a KD carnival with food stalls and an array of giant inflatables that kept the children entertained for hours.

In keeping with the healthy spirit of the day, learners and adults cycled on spinning bikes and made their own fruit smoothies in the process.

According to Rabbi Craig Kacev, director of the SABJE, “the KD Big Walk and Run is a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy time together outdoors. A percentage of each entry will be donated to the King David Schools’ Foundation and the balance of the money raised will be allocated back to the schools.”
