New world Zionist organisation launches in SA

SA olah Rolene Marks will be bringing out a special guest speaker, Ruchama Avraham, a political and Zionist leader who has served as a Member of Knesset, for two free talks in South Africa, in Cape Town on July 22 and in Johannesburg on July 24.

Avraham was an MK for both Likud and Kadima parties and held Cabinet posts of Minister of Tourism and Minister without Portfolio responsible for liaison with the Knesset.

About Ruchama Avraham

Ruchama Avraham is an Israeli political and Zionist leader who has served as a Member of Knesset (MK) for both Likud and Kadima.

She has held the portfolios of Minister of Tourism as well Minister without Portfolio, responsible for liaison with the Knesset.

Born in Rishon LeZion to a family of Sephardi olim from Turkey, Avraham received her BA in political science from Bar Ilan University after completing her army service.

Avraham was first elected to the Knesset in 2003 after winning 17th place on the Likud list. In her first term she served as a member of the Finance and Economics Committees, as well as the Committees for the Advancement of the Status of Women and Foreign Workers.  She was also a member of the Social Lobby and the Lobby for the Druze and Circassian communities.

In March 2005, she was appointed Deputy Minister of the Interior.

In 2005, Avraham joined Ariel Sharon’s Kadima Party and was re-elected on its list in 2006. As part of a Cabinet reshuffle in July 2007, she was appointed Minister without Portfolio, responsible for liaison with the Knesset. In July 2008, Avraham was appointed Minister of Tourism and retained her seat in the 2009 elections after being placed eighth on the Kadima list.

Avraham is a mother of two and speaks Hebrew, Ladino and English.
