WIZO encourages spreading the light

TAMAR LAZARUS

Last year WIZO added a further dimension to the project when it introduced its #SPREADINGLIGHT campaign. Following this successful campaign, WIZO invites women around the world to join in this heart-warming initiative helping to spread the light with the Shabbos Project by lighting candles and reciting a special prayer for peace in the home, Israel and the world at large.

Lighting Shabbat candles ushers light not only into our own lives and into our own homes, but into the entire world. By performing this beautiful mitzvah, WIZO members will contribute to disseminating the message of Am-Israel’s unity, while spreading WIZO values and hope around the globe.

WIZO members have been sourcing, packing, labelling and distributing thousands of Shabbat candles to schools, shuls and to the Cape Town Great Challah Bake. WIZO societies have organised communal Shabbat dinners and communal Shabbat candle-lighting.

So, get your community on board. Encourage them to take “Shabbat Selfies” while lighting their candles (before Shabbat) and send them to us for posting on the WIZO Facebook page and for sharing on other social media platforms. E-mail: wizospreadinglight@gmail.com

Following the Shabbos Project, WIZO will be hosting, together with the Zionist Federation, the renowned spokesperson Einat Wilf, with her fresh and powerful voice on the Middle East.

In light of the escalating violence surrounding and within Israel, this promises to be an address not to be missed. Einat Wilf, an independent and feminine voice and an expert in the Israeli and Palestinian conflict, continuously addresses audiences around the world. As a senior fellow with the Jewish People Policy Institute, she has her finger constantly on the pulse of matters appertaining to Israel’s position in the world and more importantly in the Middle East.

Wilf will be in Johannesburg on November 16 and 17 and in Cape Town on November 21, where she will be the keynote speaker at WIZO South Africa’s 35th Triennial Conference.    For bookings and venue details, please contact (011) 645-2515 / wizojhb@beyachad.co.za (for Johannesburg) or (021) 464-6753/7 / wizosa@ctjc.co.za (for Cape Town).

May the coming Shabbat bring light and relief to Israel and to all Jews around the world.
