King David High School Victory Park (KDVP) is celebrating a double achievement in public speaking. The school came eighth out of 99 Johannesburg schools in the recent Speech & Drama College (SA) Public Speaking Competition; and Grade 11 student Daniel Segal triumphed in the semifinals of the prestigious Mikolot Public Speaking Competition held on 13 May.

At the Speech & Drama College competition, KDVP was placed in the top 10% of Johannesburg schools. The team’s outstanding performance highlights the dedication and talent of KDVP’s students, who impressed judges with their intelligent and polished content and delivery. The school has commended its exceptional team of coaches for their invaluable guidance.

Segal’s victory the Mikolot Public Speaking Competition, an international contest that attracts talented speakers from Jewish schools worldwide, has earned him a coveted spot representing South Africa at the international finals in Australia this August.

Excitement about his achievement is amplified by the school’s recent history in the Mikolot competition. KDVP High School is still celebrating the gold medal won by its exceptional emcee, Joshua Woolf, in 2024. It makes it an astounding two consecutive years that KDVP has produced a champion in this highly competitive arena.

KDVP High School Headmistress Mandy Gruzd expressed immense pride in Segal, saying, “This is a monumental achievement for our school. Daniel’s hard work and talent, along with the dedication of our students and educators, have shone brightly. We are absolutely roaring with pride, and wish Daniel the very best of luck as he prepares to represent South Africa in Australia.”

The school community also extended heartfelt congratulations to its dedicated Mikolot participants, Lior Hyman, Abigail Barna, Ella Passman, and Galia Woolf.

These consecutive triumphs underscore KDVP High School’s commitment to fostering strong communication skills and empowering its students to excel on local and international platforms. The community eagerly anticipates Segal’s performance in Australia, and celebrates this historic moment for the school.
