The Batmitzvah gift

Around 15 Batmitzvah girls and their mothers joined Great Park Synagogue Rabbi Dovid Hazdan to hand out blankets and jackets at Uthando, the Afrika Tikkun centre in Johannesburg, last week. 

The B’not Mitzvah group was also involved in the fundraising, and elderly women in Alexandra were employed to make the blankets. More than 500 were handed out. 

Also, more than 1 000 jackets were donated to Afrika Tikkun for distribution. 

“We tasted the joy of giving,” said Rabbi Hazdan. “The greatest Batmitzvah gift is not the one received, but the one given!”
