Guests dancing to the Soweto Family Band

UJW Housekeepers’ Appreciation morning takes the cake

The Union of Jewish Women (UJW) Johannesburg held its annual Housekeepers’ Appreciation morning on Thursday, 13 November. This event was started in 2015 with the aim of thanking treasured housekeepers/housemen for all they do for us and our families, loving our children as their own and making our lives better overall.

The morning started with registration and goody bags; cake and tea; spot prizes; a speaker; music; dancing; and lunch. The atmosphere was full of talking and laughter as old friends reconnected.

Guest speaker Bertha Mutemwa inspired the audience with her talk, “Attitude of Gratitude”, urging guests to wake up each day and feel grateful to be alive, to have jobs, and to put a smile on their faces. Mutemwa is attending the UJW Sewing School course, and plans to pass on this skill to women that she teaches every Saturday called “women builders”.

The Soweto Family band of six entertained guests with its phenomenal talent and had everyone in the hall dancing away. Music always brings out the best in us.

With love and heartfelt compassion, the UJW strives to improve the lives of those not as fortunate as ourselves, supporting them and bringing them joy. Thanks to your support and that of the sponsors, it continues to have an impact on the lives of many in our own and other communities.
