“This award recognises the wide range of programmes that Afrika Tikkun offers to empower vulnerable children and youth in South African townships,” said De Klerk upon presenting the award.

The award recognises individuals and organisations that have made exceptional contributions to the promotion of goodwill between South Africans.

“We are absolutely honoured to receive this award,” said Lubner, according to a Afrika Tikkun media release. “It is a tribute both to the 20 000 children and youth and their families that we work with on a daily basis in an effort to see them through childhood to productive adulthood, as well as to our incredible team of 600 staff – most of whom are from the communities in which we work.”

Afrika Tikkun’s cradle-to-career model invests in the development of disadvantaged children from early infancy through young adulthood and into the world of work. The organisation provides education, health and social services for children, youth and their families through its community Centres of Excellence in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

“Afrika Tikkun has materially improved the lives and prospects of tens of thousands of young people. In so doing, it has also developed an enormous reservoir of goodwill between South Africans from different communities,” said De Klerk.
