Home to a permanent exhibition which serves as an informative memorial to those who were brutally murdered in the Shoah, the Centre houses one of the only replicas of Anne Frank’s room outside Amsterdam.

After visiting the DHC, one grade 7 learner wrote: “One thing I learnt that I will never forget is that there is only one race, the human race, that really touched my heart.”

The exhibition is not the only aspect of the DHC campu. It is also home to a gift shop brimming with elegant gifts and accessories – from jewellery and Judaica to homeware, crockery and stationery including a variety of proudly South African treasures.

The gift shop is situated inside the Circle Café, which serves milchik meals and overlooks a tranquil Garden of Remembrance. The Circle Cafe is managed by Judy Druck, author of three recipe books.

The Durban Holocaust Centre campus is a welcome retreat, offering a peaceful atmosphere in the bustling city beachfront area. Everyone is welcome.

The DHC campus is open from Sunday to Thursday, 08:30 – 16:00 and Friday from 08:30 – 14:00. It is situated at the corner of KE Masinga and Playfair Roads, telephone: (031) 368-1766.
