Gabriel Falkson, one of the project leaders of this venture, says their view is that students can have the best of both worlds by enjoying student life while living within a supportive Jewish community. The projected ground plan is for a residence which can offer the following:
- A safe suburban home located within the eruv
- Only a 10-minute drive from the Tuks university campus
- Secure parking
- Possible kashrut and basic housekeeping options
- Wi-fi, Internet and laundry facilities.
- Full access to shul activities and Jewish communal life.
It is envisaged that the residents themselves would participate in the general running of the facility. This “home-away-from-home” would be part of a larger effort to improving the services, social vibe and quality of Jewish life for the senior youth of Pretori, who are registered at Tuks or any other tertiary institutions, or employed or articled in Pretoria.
